A new coastal resort serving the Mape new town and the capital city

Closely associated with the proposals to develop a new town at Mape, Matrix Partnership was commissioned to plan a new coastal resort in an outstandingly beautiful location at the mouth of a nearby river.

The brief for the resort was very much broader in its scope than might have been imagined in a tropical situation such as this.  Rather than being solely a place of quiet relaxation – although this remained an important element of the scheme – the client’s vision for Konakridee is that it will become a recreation facility for the capital city, accessible either by private car or, more interestingly, by a direct sea taxi service from Freetown.

In this function, Konakridee is to provide a much more lively and vibrant offer, notably in the creation of an Entertainment Area set around a lake with a variety of attractions dispersed around it.  During the day the Entertainement Area will be substantially a facility for families, whilst in the evening its character will change to cater for adults with a variety of eating places, bars, an open air theatre etc..  In addition to this, the resort will have a hotel, a variety of service apartments and houses, a local centre and a range of tourism activities including sailing and river cruises.
