The town of Wellingborough is set for major expansion over the coming years as part of the Milton Keynes South Midlands Growth Area. The Development Framework prepared by Matrix Partnership for the major new urban extension, Stanton Cross, has been followed by a series of more detailed Development Briefs for each of the areas identified for Phase I development, namely:

– Station Island, a high density mixed-use hub centred on the railway station, incorporating expansion and upgrading of the station to serve as major transport interchange for the area;

– Stanton Cross Neighbourhood Centre, complete with a range of community and commercial facilities; and

– Eastfield Urban Quarter, involving the development of a major brownfield site on the edge of the existing town.

Each brief involved significant levels of consultation, including Enquiry-by-Design workshops to arrive at a collaborative way forward. Following adoption of each brief as Supplementary Planning Guidance, implementation of each strategy continues to move forward.
