A Conservation Area Appraisal Supplementary Planning Document  was adopted in March 2009 by the Borough Council of Wellingborough to support its newly adopted Town Centre Area Action Plan. 

The document will assist with the protection and enhancement of the architectural character and historic fabric of the town centre in-line with English Heritage guidance.

Key proposals and recommendations were made that included a substantial expansion of the existing Conservation Area boundary, that was subjected to rigorous consultation with local as well as statutory stakeholders and consultees.

In addition, recommendations for the improvements to future management of the Conservation Area including improved documentation, tighter definitions of heritage status of individual buildings, a building at risk register and potential grants or funding avenues for Council-led maintenance.
