The Town Design Statement, prepared on behalf of North Dorset District Council, establishes the basis for achieving a coherent and consulted approach to future design and planning in Sturminster Newton and to encourage further regeneration.

A fundamental part of this exercise is a town-wide characterisation study that looks at the urban form and issues through a wide range of key features and influences on character such as landform, infrastructure, street pattern, urban grain, historic influences, plot form, building density, land uses, building height, age and form, architectural style, public realm and vegetation.

In parallel with the wider exercise, the practice was commissioned to undertake a Design and Development Brief for the Station Road area in the town centre, which included a former creamery.

Both studies included substantial public consultation as an essential element of the work.
