The Sandown Bay Regeneration Strategy prepared for the Isle of Wight Council presents an integrated way of dealing with the range of problems that exist in this seaside conurbation, together with opportunities for regeneration and enhancement.

By applying an imaginative yet pragmatic approach it identifies how regeneration can most successfully be achieved by targeting the necessary external funding needed to make the regeneration happen and by managing the phasing of those income streams.

Recommendations include strengthening existing weak links between the town centres of Sandown and Shanklin and introducing new uses to diversify the local economy. Proposals are also put forward to redefine building frontages, protect ecologically sensitive areas, introduce traffic management techniques, improve pedestrian access and raise the overall quality of the public realm. The Strategy has been adopted by the Council as the basis for development planning
