Matrix Partnership’s role in Devonport’s regeneration is now recognised as best practice, with the practice being awarded the 2006 RTPI Sustainable Communities Award and 2007 Regeneration & Renewal Award for Best Use of Planning in Regeneration.
Initial work for the Devonport Regeneration Community Partnerships was followed by the preparation of a detailed Masterplan for the area’s principal development site, the Storage Enclave, on behalf of English Partnerships.
A mixed-use strategy is put forward for redevelopment of Devonport’s former town centre based on a modern reinterpretation of the area’s historic street network. This followed an intensive series of community engagement initiatives to harness the energies of local people in the regeneration programme. A range of housing types is accompanied by new community, retail and employment premises. Restoration of the Nineteenth Century market building and clocktower will serve as a beacon of wider neighbourhood renewal.
The Masterplan served as the basis of a successful outline planning application and is now being built out by Redrow Homes.
