Matt Lally
BA (Hons) MA (Urb Des) MRTPI

An experienced urban designer and town planner by background, over the last 18 years Matt has worked on a wide-ranging international portfolio of projects that have been delivered throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa - in places diverse as Syria, Singapore, Indonesia, China and Sierra Leone. Large-scale  masterplanning exercises have included leisure resorts,  new settlement, major mixed-use project developments, specialist business parks and associated infrastructure. A range of more detailed and specialist growth management planning / urban design exercises have also been undertaken for a variety of clients.

Within the UK, Matt has a varied and distinguished track record and specialises in the preparation of planning strategies, masterplans, development briefs and design codes - often as manager of multi-disciplinary teams. Matt was project manager for the award-winning programme for the regeneration of Devonport, Plymouth (2006 RTPI Sustainable Communities Award, 2007 RTPI Award for Best Use of Planning in Regeneration).

Matt is a Member of the UK Government’s Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) Enabling Panel and an accredited Building for Life Assessor. He has undertaken several UK Government best practice research and guidance projects, most notably as project manager / author of the highly influential Urban Design Compendium for a variety of UK Government agencies. Matt has been a visiting tutor in Urban Design at The Bartlett, University College London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and jointly runs the practice’s London office.
